Not every CEO brings a live monkey to a team meeting or flies the whole company to a Savannah Bananas game to emphasize the importance of team culture. Brett Lamb is truly unique, blending industry expertise, management experience, servant leadership, and fun into everything he does.
While Brett’s career started in the courtroom as a litigator at Gardere Wynne Sewell (now Foley Lardner), he quickly realized that eDiscovery vendors – a necessary part of any litigation – were missing the mark with poor service, confusing price structures and lack of expertise. He struggled with the same issues during his time as In-House Counsel at construction giant Austin Industries. No one on the eDiscovery side seemed to speak the complicated language of construction litigation.
An innovator and problem-solver, he turned frustration to innovation and co-founded The Discovery Experts in 2020 at the very height of the pandemic. While everyone else was buckling in and keeping their head down, Brett was looking ahead and dreaming big. He set out to change the world of eDiscovery, to create a business that would transform the field’s processes, pricing, and most of all, culture. After attending training at the Ritz Carlton, learning firsthand how the Savannah Bananas put “Fans First” and closely following (stalking, some might call it) Will Guidera and the idea of “Unreasonable Hospitality,” Brett assembled a leadership style and vision for his company that embodies a blend of all of it.
On weekly team calls, he highlights employees’ excellent work. He invests in books for the team to read as a unit on leadership, inspiration, and motivation. He dresses up and performs outlandish cheer routines to celebrate when his consultants are promoted to senior leadership positions. He hires mariachi bands to lighten the mood after tough days. His leadership has been invaluable to Discovery Experts, driving an 800% growth in staffing over the past four years, from just two employees to 18, which significantly attributed to a 28% revenue increase for the firm over the same time frame. While growing in big ways during one of the most tumultuous times for American businesses, he has managed to achieve an impressive employee retention rate above 90%. Staff consistently report high job satisfaction, leading to awards such as DBJ’s Best Places to Work (2022). His leadership is evident internally to employees and externally to clients, proving Discovery Experts has a master captain at the helm.
